After carefully unpacking the unit, place the stand upright on desk or bench.
Note: Always keep a small rubber or soft plastic block below the indentor to protect the tip from contacting the support table directly.
Using the rear knob adjust the height of the upper assembly near the top of the support rod. Please be careful as the assembly is heavy. Tighten the rear knob to secure the head assembly in place.
Use the included hex key, to loosen the front mounting bracket thumb screws and remove the front mounting bracket. Insert the e2000 Durometer so the top of the rubber grip is just below the bottom of the mounting bracket and replace the front mounting bracket.
Turn the thumb screws to secure the durometer in place and then tighten with the hex key.
Adjust the head and/or table support so that the durometer is located directly along the centerline of the table. Please note that alignment is critical.
Place the sample to be measured squarely on the movable stage.
Set and lock the stand so that the durometer foot is about 1/4 inch above the sample. Either the table support or head (upper) assembly can be moved up or down as needed a hex key is enclosed.
Place the appropriate weight on the 1/8 inch shaft at the top of the stand. For ASTM types A, B, E or O, use the 1 kg deadweight.
The stand is now set up and ready to make hardness measurements. When making a measurement, turn knob and lift stage so that sample contacts the durometer base and the durometer & deadweight assembly is lifted slightly. See durometer instructions for additional information on testing and reporting test results.
The durometer pressor foot can be set parallel to the support table or used in the self-aligning mode for non-parallel material. Make 5 readings and average the test results. Please call tech support for instructions and guidelines.
