Please read completely before operating your stand.
After carefully unpacking the unit, place the stand upright on desk or bench.
The model 476 is for Pencil Style Durometers.
Note: Always keep a small rubber or soft plastic block below the indentor to protect the tip from contacting the support table directly.
Using the rear knob adjust the height of the upper assembly near the top of the support rod. Please be careful as the assembly is heavy. Tighten the rear knob to secure the head assembly in place.
Use the included hex key to loosen the front mounting bracket thumb screw and swing open the front mounting bracket. Insert the Pencil Style Durometer so that the lower edge of the barrel adapter
is resting on the top surface of mounting bracket and close the front mounting bracket. Turn the thumb screw to secure durometer in place and then tighten with the hex key.
Place the appropriate weight on the 1/8 inch shaft at the top of the stand. For ASTM types A, B, E or O, use the 1 kg deadweight. For ASTM types C, D, or DO, use the 5 kg deadweight.
The durometer pressor foot can be set parallel to the support table or used in the self-aligning mode for measuring non-parallel material. Make 5 readings and average the test results.
When making a measurement, turn knob and lift stage so that sample contacts the durometer base and the durometer & deadweight assembly is lifted slightly. See durometer instructions for additional information on testing and reporting test results.
